How Hypnosis Helps Alleviate Your Limiting Beliefs: The Science of Mental Reprogramming

Hello Manjit app community,

Take a second right now to gift yourself a deep belly breath and let it out slowly….. Nice! You are connecting to your beautiful body. If you repeat this whilst reading this newsletter, you will calm your nervous system and ground yourself in 3 minutes.

This month I want to open the aperture on your limiting beliefs. We all carry invisible scripts that shape our lives with thoughts like ‘I’m not good enough’, ‘I’ll never succeed’,  or ‘I don’t deserve happiness’. These limiting beliefs operate beneath conscious awareness, quietly sabotaging our potential and keeping us trapped in patterns of self-defeat. While traditional talk therapy can help identify these beliefs, hypnosis offers a uniquely powerful method for actually dissolving them. You truly can access the subconscious mind where these beliefs are stored and reinforced as hypnotherapy creates pathways for deep change.

I’ve worked with incredibly talented clients at the top of their fields and yet I am always amazed by how many people come to me saying they have ‘imposter syndrome’.

They feel undeserving and guilty of the major part they just got in a movie or job title as CFO in a top finance company because they felt others were more talented.

They feel the boss/person employing them simply made a mistake and soon they will be….  “found out”.

Firstly I always look at the facts and will ask… Well, did you get lucky? Is there a deep knowing that there is something else that you need to learn and embody?

How quickly can we do the ground work if this is the case? Or is there confusion as your brain is signalling anxiety, when it’s really the excitement of simply expanding yourself into the new role?

Surely we are meant to also evolve whilst on the job as there’s no such thing as waiting until you are perfect.

I believe that life is about feeling uncomfortable and being brave enough to step onto the field and not observe from the bleachers. Be the player and not the fan. Be the inspiration and leave behind a passive life. Encourage yourself to venture into the unknown and discover who you really want to become.

Understanding Limiting Beliefs and Their Origins

Limiting beliefs usually show up as feeling inadequate and not good enough, triggered by an unconscious childhood memory. It’s easy to compare yourself to others with so much information is designed to make us feel insecure and play the comparing game. These beliefs are deeply ingrained mental frameworks that filter how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world. We learn our patterns in childhood and adolescence through repeated experiences, parental messaging, cultural and emotional conditioning.

Once established, they function as self-fulfilling prophecies: if you believe you’re incompetent, you’ll interpret ambiguous situations as evidence of incompetence, avoid challenges that might prove otherwise, and behave in ways that inadvertently confirm the belief. The first step is simply to be aware, recognize you have these feelings, and not bury or avoid them. Then use a reframing method, a self-hypnosis session, or a small act of bravery to move yourself forward in a way that feels comfortable to you.

Here’s how your limiting beliefs may be impacting your life.

-I can’t ask for a pay rise, I might get fired.
-It’s normal to not be fulfilled in a marriage. It’s what my parents did.
-I’m just not smart enough to get that promotion.
-My business would never be able to break that goal in sales.
-I have to put my needs last, it’s the only way to keep the peace.
-All wealthy people are corrupt and greedy.
-My friends only like me because I sway my opinions towards their needs.
-My social media posts are not successful because of the algorithm.
-My children are the reason I don’t have time to start my dream project.

Research in cognitive neuroscience has shown that repeated thoughts and beliefs create strong neural pathways through a process called long-term potentiation. Each time we rehearse a limiting belief, we strengthen these neural connections, making the belief feel increasingly “true” and automatic. You simply can’t switch to a new mindset or “positive thinking’ because traditional conscious efforts to change beliefs often fail. These efforts attempt to override well-established pathways through willpower alone, without addressing the subconscious programming where the beliefs are most deeply rooted.

Here are some suggested programs to help you re-wire your self-limiting beliefs on the Manjit app.
